The ELDR Certified Technical Writer (ECTW) is the Institute's professional certification for technical writers, developer advocates, and documentation engineers who produce API documentation, developer guides, SDK references, and technical content for cloud and SaaS platforms. Coverage spans OpenAPI/Swagger specification authoring, developer portal design, docs-as-code workflows, and the technical content governance frameworks that enterprise engineering teams require. Designed for practitioners who communicate between engineering teams and their audiences — developers, operations teams, and enterprise buyers.

OpenAPI Specification Authoring

OpenAPI 3.1 specification structure. Describing paths, operations, parameters, request bodies, and responses. Schema definitions and data type documentation. Authentication and authorization documentation. Specification validation and linting.

Developer Portal Design and Architecture

Developer portal information architecture. Content hierarchy for API documentation: references, guides, tutorials, and examples. Navigation design for developer audiences. Developer portal platforms: ReadMe, Stoplight, Redocly, GitBook.

Module 4

SDK and Integration Documentation

SDK documentation structure and standards. Multi-language code sample strategies. Installation, authentication, and first-call documentation. Error handling and troubleshooting documentation. SDK changelog management.

Docs-as-Code for API Documentation

Git-based API documentation workflows. Markdown and MDX for documentation. CI/CD pipeline integration for documentation publishing. Automated documentation from code. Review and approval processes for API documentation teams.

Module 6

Technical Content Governance

API documentation standards and style guides. Version management and deprecation documentation. Release notes and changelog management (Keep a Changelog, Semantic Versioning). API documentation auditing and quality assurance.

Capstone

Enterprise API Documentation Program

Develop a complete API documentation program for a simulated cloud platform. Deliver: OpenAPI specification, developer quick-start guide, SDK integration guide, changelog template, and documentation governance standard.

Is this certification recognized externally?

The TWP credential is an ELDR Institute professional designation. It is grounded in the same regulatory frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST, AICPA) referenced in enterprise and government hiring requirements. Continuing education credit applications are in development.
